Chapter 10 -
What do you have to
do?
We have in the previous
chapters looked at Mormonism, the teachings of the Mormons, and how they differ
from the Bible. We have noted that the teachings of the Mormons are completely
different from the ones in the Bible, and especially the ones in the New
Testament. In addition to this, also the value of Joseph Smith as a prophet is
questionable because in his life, his teachings, and his prophesies there are
features that put him in bad light.
But what do you
personally have to do as a Mormon in order to receive eternal life? How can you
be in connection with God and how can you get into His Heavenly Kingdom? We
shall try to explain this in the light of the following:
TURN TO JESUS!
Firstly, you must understand
that you must turn to Jesus. Since we have life only in Him and since He is the
only way to the kingdom of God, you must turn to Him.
Perhaps you have
always understood this matter in theory, but have you ever done this and asked
Jesus to come into your life? (You can say, for example, " Lord Jesus,
come into my life!) If you have not done this yet, you are not yet in
connection with God:
- (John 10:9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be
saved, and shall go in and
out, and find pasture.
- (John 14:6) Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.
- (John 5:40) And you will not come to me, that you might have life.
- (John 6:68) Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we
go? you have the words of eternal life.
SALVATION IS NOT A PROCESS
Another thing that you should
understand is that salvation is not a process in which you by degrees would
become better and better, and finally receive the grace of God. Instead, it is
a question of receiving grace, salvation, and eternal life immediately after
having received Jesus into your life. You have, since that moment, the adoption
of God and eternal life, as the following verses indicate:
- (John 1:12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to
become the sons of God, even to them
that believe on his name:
- (1 John 5:11-13) And this is the
record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his
Son.
12 He that
has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.
13 These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the
Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may
believe on the name of the Son of God.
THE PRAYER OF SALVATION:
Lord, Jesus, I turn to You. I
confess that I have sinned against You and I have not lived according to Your
will. However, I want to turn from my sins and follow You with all my heart. I
also believe that my sins have been forgiven by Your atonement work and I have
received eternal life through You. I thank You for the salvation You have given
me. Amen.
