It is possible that a person thinks that he is acting in
God's power, but does not act. What features are associated
with such anointing from a false source?
•
Passivity and
emptying one's mind, e.g. through oriental meditation, is a
gateway for evil spirits to influence a person's life
•
Spirit guides, which
can have different names, including Christian ones, are one
of the most obvious characteristics of wrong anointing. God
does not lead through spirit guides. The constant presence
of a spirit around a person always indicates evil spirits.
Spirit guides are common in the New Age movement.
•
Continuous seeing
into the spirit world indicates wrong guidance. If a person
sees UFOs, humanoids, human auras, human faces, fairies,
elves, goblins, it indicates the influence of evil spirits
•
Recurrent out-of-body
experiences are common in false anointing
•
Supernatural
knowledge does not guarantee that the knowledge is from God.
People can have imitation gifts from the wrong source, as in
the Acts of the Apostles, about the prophetess who had a
spirit of divination (Acts 16:16-19)
•
Amnesia and
blackouts, e.g. with trance mediums, are common. They do not
remember or know what they have spoken while in a trance
•
Phenomena in
families. Parapsychological abilities and “gifts”, such as
clairvoyance and spiritual healing skills, can be inherited
in families, unlike God’s gifts.
•
Great exhaustion
after the anointing has worn off is typical of false
anointing
•
Force and compulsion
are typical of false anointing
•
Self-will. One
indication that the anointing is not from God is if a person
can decide for himself when the anointing will work or a
miracle will happen. This is never the case with God's
anointing, but we are always dependent on Him.
•
Impact on the life of
faith. Even a person who is truly in faith can fall under
false anointing, but then it is difficult for him to pray
normally, to concentrate on reading the Word, and he drifts
into a life of sin. If this person turns to Jesus, he may
have hard battles until he is set free.
A person can become a
part of a false anointing in several ways: by engaging in
occult practices themselves, through long-term passive
meditation, by directly submitting to the power of a spirit
being, as an inheritance from parents or ancestors, through
transference, i.e. a person visits a spirit healer
Freedom from false
anointing, demonic gifts and all ties occurs when a person
turns with all their heart to Jesus Christ, surrenders their
entire life to God, confesses their sins to God and
renounces all gifts and influence of the devil. Jesus is
powerful to help every person who has struggles in these
areas
